Baptisms, Marriages, Churchings & Confessions
Baptism
Baptism, as the rite of Christian initiation, is celebrated by the parish priest in public worship on a Sunday. The parish priest will hope to see Godparents and parents prepare for the service. Baptisms take place at Edenham and Witham on the Hill during Parish Communion. At Swinstead in Parish Communion, where possible, but otherwise by arrangement. For the thanksgiving of a child and the blessings of homes, please contact the Vicar.
Confirmation
Confirmation takes place each year in Eastertide and preparation begins in January. Confirmation is celebrated by the Bishop to strengthen with the gift of the Holy Spirit those who are called to reaffirm and renew the Christian life given to them in Baptism and follows a period of preparation.
Weddings
Weddings: these parishes have a traditional policy regarding the remarriage of divorcees. Blessings after a civil marriage are celebrated when appropriate.
Confessions
Confessions: the parish priest is available at any time for confessions. The Sacrament of Reconciliation provides the assurance of God’s forgiveness for those who are penitent. It involves a one-to-one confidential conversation with the priest. The parish priest is happy to help people to prepare for their first confession.
